The First Shall be Last, and The Last First:  Did you know that the initial letter of your last name influences how fast you make purchasing decisions? Those with family names beginning with A take their time; those with names from the end of the alphabet make speedier decisions about what to buy. That's according to the Journal of Consumer Research. He grew up as an A; she may have had a maiden name late in the alphabet, in which case they might not have been compatible shoppers. Cemetery Visitors:  He has turned the graveyard into a park, and has come equipped with an umbrella. In this context, though, we should really call it a parasol since it is meant to protect against (para) the sun (sol). However, it really doesn't seem like it is doing him much good. The Last Shall Be First, and The First Last:  Everybody in Las Vegas is a "come-here." That would include folks with the family name Zechter, which is probably a variant of the Biblical Greek name Zacharias. Here is someone who has chosen a quote, probably from one of his role models, Henry R. Luce, to inspire visitors to his niche: "To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, to draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life." He may have found that purpose at home, but it appears that he also found his purpose in working for the FBI. Palm Downtown Cemetery. [2016]

The Lone Star Flag is Very Much Alive! The Lone Star Flag is very much alive wherever there are transplanted Texans, including here in Nevada. Clearly, this husband, father, and grandfather was a Texan at heart, or maybe a Texan-American. Notice that the the Texas flag flies at the same level as the U.S. flag, almost as if each was an independent country of its own. Flag representations like this are usually reserved for two sovereignties on par with each other. Chief Tecopa Cemetery New West. [2016]

Frightening Places?  Cemeteries are the perfect places to spin the Halloween narrative, and why not have some fun with it? Perhaps those pumpkins are smiling because they know they and their interred master are putting a smile on somebody's face. Chief Tecopa Cemetery West Lawn. [2016]
